The NASW - Iowa Chapter Diversity Committee has gone to great lengths to establish a state-wide Speakers Bureau which includes expert professionals, researchers, and clinicians throughout Iowa who seek to enrich our understanding of individuals, groups, and communities as they relate to the diversity of the state.

Virgil Gooding, Sr. MA, MSW, LISW
Mr. Gooding has presented seminars ans workshops locally, regionally and nationally on various topics of thirty years. These presentations focus on mental health issues, delivering culturally competent services, street gang development in rural states and managing multi-generational anger. Additionally, he trained and clinically supervised the cris counselors who participated in Iowa's Respoinding to Katrina Program that assisted hurricane victims as they adjusted to relocation in Iowa.
Mr. Gooding helped develop the cultural competency protocols for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. He assisted in the development of the Program Improvement Plan (PIP) for the Iowa Department of Human Services. Mr. Gooding is a member of the African American Family Preservation and Resource Committee (AAFPRC) in Linn County and is also currently Co-Chair of the Iowa Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council. He was awarded Iowa's NASW Social Worker of the Year in 2003 and the CSAT Award for Execellence in 1997.

A'Lisa Walker
A'Lisa is a Social Worker at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo Iowa. She has presented information to staff developement on diversity issues, working effectively with African American patient's, and has presented information on medical issues that affect the African American community. A'Lisa serves on several community/State boards.
